What Is The Newbery Award. The american library association awards the newbery medal each year to the most distinguished american children’s book published the previous year, in order to demonstrate to the public that contributions to children’s literature are worthy of recognition in the same way that poetry, plays, or novels are. The newbery award is an award given each year by the american library association to the author of the book that the association considers the best contribution to american children’s.
